Osteoporosis Treatment Caulfield South
Supporting your bones begins with moving confidently.
Moving with Confidence for Stronger Bones
“I feel it in my bones” may be a familiar saying, but bone health is no joke when strength has reduced. After an osteoporosis or osteopenia diagnosis, or when your bones need extra support, keeping active can become an especially valuable part of your routine.
As an osteoporosis physio near Caulfield South, we provide personalised care that focuses on safe, evidence-informed movement. When bone loss starts to rear its head, your goal should be to build strength, improve balance, and reduce your risk of falls and fractures. And that’s our goal for you, too!

Understanding Osteoporosis
With osteoporosis, the bones become less dense and increasingly vulnerable as time passes. Consequently, a fracture can occur after a fall or knock that might otherwise seem minor.
Our bones are always renewing themselves, with old bone removed and new bone formed. As we age, particularly beyond 50, the rebuilding process may not keep pace, leading to a gradual loss of bone.
At BMC, we aim to help people manage mild to severe osteoporosis through movement-focused physiotherapy designed to support bone health and improve overall strength, balance, and function.
Osteoporosis Warning Signs and the Risk of Fractures
There may be no obvious warning signs while osteoporosis is developing, earning it the description ‘silent’ disease. In some cases, a person only becomes aware of it after a minor fall or tumble results in a fracture.
People with risk factors such as menopause, a family history of osteoporosis, long-term corticosteroid treatment or particular medical conditions may benefit from discussing their bone health with their GP and physiotherapist.
Some signs that may indicate osteoporosis include:
- Fragility breaks in the wrist, hip or spine
- A gradual decrease in height
- A noticeable rounding of the upper back
- Persistent spinal pain resulting from compression fractures
- Reduced physical strength and growing uncertainty about everyday movement
- Unsteadiness and a heightened risk of falls

Osteoporosis FAQs
Who gets osteoporosis?
Women are four times more likely than men to develop osteoporosis. Men can also be affected, but the risk of bone loss rises for women, especially after menopause — just our luck!
Many people of all genders don’t realise they have osteoporosis until they fracture a bone. This is why early assessment, preventative strategies, and appropriate exercise are so important.
Can physiotherapy help osteoporosis?
Physiotherapy may help you stay stronger, steadier and more confident with movement when living with osteoporosis. Although it does not restore lost bone density, a personalised program can support posture, mobility and balance, and may lower the likelihood of falls and fractures. Regular, appropriately selected exercise is commonly included in ongoing management.
Is strength training safe if I have osteoporosis?
How are osteopenia and osteoporosis different?
Osteopenia refers to lower-than-normal bone density but is less severe than osteoporosis. It can be an early warning sign that allows you to take steps to improve bone health before osteoporosis develops.
Could the right exercise program help protect bone health?
When chosen appropriately, weight-bearing and resistance exercise can support bone health by encouraging the bones to adapt to physical load. Alongside helping maintain bone density, it may improve strength, balance and function—plus, there’s no reason healthy movement can’t be fun.
Is a referral required before I can see a physiotherapist?
No referral is required to arrange a BMC physiotherapy assessment, so you can contact us directly. If your GP or treating doctor has referred you, we can also liaise with your healthcare team as part of your ongoing care.
